The Glenmede Difference – Balance of Strength & Size

Privately owned and independent, we have the scale to provide a wide range of expertise and solutions and the resources to forge personal and enduring relationships with each of our clients.

Our Values

A Commitment to Fiduciary Values

The Glenmede Trust Company was founded in 1956 for one purpose: to serve in perpetuity as Trustee and Administrator of The Pew Memorial Trust, the initial funding source for the nonprofit now known as The Pew Charitable Trusts.

This was a bold objective and demanded two distinct qualities from the newly established Glenmede Trust Company: an everlasting commitment to fiduciary values and the longevity to fulfill our duties.

Over the decades, we have consistently kept our clients one step ahead in an ever-changing world.

Inclusion & Community

At Glenmede, who we are, what we stand for, and how we operate center on respecting and valuing all people. We believe that a diverse and inclusive environment fuels innovation and enriches the experiences of our employees, clients, and the communities we serve. Our initiatives are designed to create a workplace where every individual feels valued, respected, and empowered to contribute their unique perspectives. This commitment extends to our communities. Through volunteer opportunities and financial support, we partner with organizations that provide education and resources, helping our communities grow stronger and more financially secure. This dedication not only shapes our culture but also enhances our ability to understand and serve the diverse needs of our clients and make an impact on the communities in which we live and work.

1960-70s

In its first years of operation, Glenmede’s primary responsibility was to administer The Pew Memorial Trust and two additional trusts established by the founders. We realized that the investment platform created for The Pew Trusts could be successfully leveraged to serve other individuals, families, and institutions.

With that in mind, we expanded our wealth advisory expertise into a comprehensive suite of services to include fiduciary, tax and philanthropic services, and financial planning.

1980s

In anticipation of our clients’ need to diversify their growing portfolios, we introduced international investment strategies.

1990s

We began to supplement our suite of proprietary investment products with external managers. This gave clients access to a wider range of investment styles and expertise, while allowing us to focus on our core investment strengths.

We also introduced private equity and hedge fund strategies and a proprietary venture capital fund to provide clients with unique opportunities for nontraditional sources of return.

To better serve our growing client base, we expanded our presence beyond Philadelphia to include offices in Princeton and Northern New Jersey, Wilmington, Delaware, and Cleveland.

2000s

Glenmede introduced quantitative investment strategies to give our clients more flexibility in defining and controlling the risk in their portfolios.

Glenmede Investment Management LP was established to make our family of proprietary mutual funds and separately managed accounts available to a broader group of investors, including corporations, public plans, foundations, endowments, and nonprofit clients.

We formalized two long-standing practices, Endowments & Foundations and Individual & Family Wealth, to better serve the unique needs of those clients.

2010s

Our New York City, Washington, DC, and Palm Beach, Florida, offices opened to serve clients and investment partners in these metropolitan areas.

2020s

We established a Private Wealth office in Pittsburgh as part of Glenmede’s targeted regional expansion strategy.

What are the advantages of working with a boutique wealth management firm versus a large firm?
\ \ \ \ \ \ \ \ \ \ \

Typically, boutique wealth management firms can offer the services of a larger institution without sacrificing personalization and client experience. This can be an ideal solution for a high-net-worth individual seeking to customize a comprehensive wealth plan with the help of knowledgeable and experienced professionals.

In managing assets, a fiduciary, such as a trust company or investment adviser, is held to high legal and ethical standards. By law, a fiduciary is obligated to act in the best interests of the client. Learn more>
